Our research interest focuses on the solution of ill-posed inverse problems in medical imaging. This includes the development of algorithms for analytic and iterative tomographic reconstruction in PET, SPECT and x-ray CT. Currently we are studying algorithms and theory for the reconstruction from truncated projections, including a subclass of problems known as the interior problems of tomography. A second topic is the simultaneous reconstruction of the activity and attenuation images from time-of-flight emission PET data. The third topic is the iterative reconstruction in CT with non-quadratic penalties.
